We all wear masks. We are designed to. Designed to dance with different roles and people.
Sometimes the mask becomes a false identity.
Sometimes, we wear the mask so long we forget it is a mask and not who we are.
You're not alone here. There are different versions of me too...
When I wear flip flops and a sundress with no makeup
When I show up quietly on a beach with my coffee and my journal
When I wear heels and a dress, put on lashes and lip gloss and stand on a stage.
When I throw on Dave’s fleece pants and a hoody and sit by a campfire or go off roading in the muck.
When I’m being silly, or deep thinking, loud or quiet.
When I’m step mamma, when I’m coaching, when I’m writing, being a daughter, a friend, a wife...
These are all different versions of the same me. I’m all of them. I’m none of them.
Where it can get confusing is when others judge because they have a picture of who you are, in their mind. OR you think others want to see a certain you. OR you think others think a certain thing.
If we remove all the masks and go back in time, back to a time when you didn’t know about wearing a mask. When you just showed up as beautiful, powerful original YOU (probably around 2 years old) you will find yourself, before you were domesticated.
Before you were told by society what was cool and not cool. Who you are and who you are not. Before you decided what mask you needed to wear to survive, to thrive, to be liked, to be loved, to be worthy. Before you learned to fear.
I call this my "Original I AM". The Original ME. Still there under all the masks.
Social media has made it harder to discern people’s "Original I AM" because the camera and all the platforms have made it easier to wear a mask.
The mask of the successful, happy, beautiful and somewhat filtered. It’s made of us choose.
People either believe their own press or feel like imposters on a daily basis.
If you are tired of wearing a mask or are not even sure if you have one on, there are a few simple processes you can do to discover your "Original I AM". Who you were before all the layers and expectations piled on. Before you were conditioned to be, act, believe, fear and live. When you still felt free.
Underlying all of these identities is YOU. Unique and beautiful you.
To get closer to your "Original I AM" ask yourself the questions:
What am I most afraid of?
What am I not saying that I long to say?
What do I believe about myself that hurts?
What was my nature before life happened?
After spending time with the answers, use the ALARM method to locate and release any unprocessed emotions which may be part of the mask.
You can wear the masks (its natural) just like you can wear different outfits. They are all you and none are you.
As you release the noise of what ISN'T you, you will discover more clarity around what IS.
